Russia-Germany H1 2021 trade amounts to 27.7 bln euros

BERLIN, Aug 25 (PRIME) -- Russia ranked 14th in the list of major trading partners of Germany with a turnover of 27.7 billion euros in January-July 2021, the Eastern Committee of the German Economy told reporters on Wednesday.

At his meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel on August 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that trade between Russia and Germany almost doubled in January-July 2021 despite the downturn in the economy.

German exports to Russia increased by 14%, imports by 36% in January-July 2021 compared to the same period last year, Oliver Hermes, Chairman of the Eastern Committee of German Economy, said. Exports from Russia grew due to the increase in energy prices.

According to the committee, China with a trade turnover of 116.8 billion euros ranked first in the list of Germany’s major trading partners in the first half of 2021, followed by the Netherlands with a trade turnover of 97.2 billion euros.
